City Women Ladies Summer Book Club Series

June 3, 2024 5:30pm

Sign up HERE for one or ALL book club series for this summer!

The books in the Book Club Series will be Christian-based, but are not Bible studies. Open discussions will revolve around book themes and not specific questions. We look forward to engaging in conversation and to seeing how we grow from what we learn!

June 3rd - "What If It's True" by Charles Martin

What if every single word of the Bible is true? Can I trust it?

What if the King of the universe is speaking directly to me through His Word?

And if I believe His Word is true, how should I respond?

Martin uses storytelling to highlight key moments in Scripture from the life and ministry of Jesus as well as from his own journey as a disciple and a mentor to help us not just to think differently, but to live differently.

July 8th - "Mary, Called Magdalene" by Margaret George

Was Mary Magdalene a prostitute, a female divinity figure, a church leader, or all of those? Biblical references to her are tantalizingly brief, but we do know that she was the first person to whom the risen Christ appeared--and the one commissioned to tell others the good news. In a vivid re-creation of Mary Magdalene's life story, Margaret George convincingly captures this renowned woman's voice as she moves from girlhood to womanhood, becomes part of the circle of disciples, and comes to grips with the divine while being grounded in biblical scholarship and secular research.

August 12th - "The Prayer Box" by Lisa Wingate

When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out Iola’s rambling Victorian house. Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola’s walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, spanning from Iola’s youth to her last days. Hidden in the boxes is the story of a lifetime, written on random bits of paper—the hopes and wishes, fears and thoughts of an unassuming but complex woman passing through the seasons of an extraordinary, unsung life filled with journeys of faith, observations on love, and one final lesson that could change everything for Tandi.
